The very heart of the Istrian way of life
Winemaking is the Istrian lifestyle, their way of life. Filled with respect, devotion, and love for nature's best fruits Istria is the ancient wine-producing region of Croatia. However, it is still mostly undiscovered by the wine-drinking population. We believe that is soon about to change.
The Rožanić family says wine has been their daily bread for over 9000 years and believes in honest and natural winemaking. Mladen Rožanić is in the relentless pursuit of knowledge, hard work, and love, which are the secret ingredients of each bottle of wine he creates. He says the Rožanić family produces wines for those who wish to taste a genuinely fine product. His wines are for someone whose lifestyle is enriched by little luxuries, who feels deserving of the best and wants to taste only the best. He describes his wine as something for a discerning person, an inquisitive soul. The philosophy of organic production is what the main focus of his winery is because he puts great value on the correlation between man and nature - therefore his wine production has a minimal influence of technology.
The Roxanich winery is located in Motovun, a small hilltop city considered to be the most powerful source of positive energy in Istria. Nowadays, the Roxanich winery prides on excellent grades by prestigious magazines such as Eno&Gastro where it received great results and won over some of the world-renowned cellars. They grow Malvasia Istriana, Teran, and Borgonja – local wines. Roxanich reds are rich, bold wines, meant for long keeping and lasting enjoyment. Made with local as well as widely recognized grape varietals it offers a unique insight into Istrian winemaking. Their Teran presents itself in the color bright red, intense, fresh, and elegant with aromas of chocolate chips, dark fruits, and a hint of leather and tobacco.
We invite you to visit this magnificent winery when in Istria. And, who knows, the family might just share some of their winemaking secrets with you.
